Why AI Feels Divisive
Thanks in part to some exaggeration and distortion by the media, the introduction and application of AI is becoming more divisive. Some people are now labelling all AI in the most damning terms.
There is certainly a “dark side”, found mostly on platforms like YouTube and Facebook, where visual “AI slop” can feel like the digital equivalent of junk food or spam.
Where AI Becomes Useful
The written word is different. Blogs, LinkedIn posts, emails and other written content can be benign or malignant depending on the instructions given to the AI source. With a little experience, it is often possible to spot AI influence, although this may become harder as AI platforms continue to learn how to mimic human communication.
Salient’s Ethical AI Approach
I believe AI can have a very positive and beneficial effect on business as long as it is used correctly, wisely and ethically. Salient courses now offer, within the sales process, an Ethical AI option.
Whenever data is collected or analysed, there is usually a traditional method, a digital approach and now, an AI-supported approach. The course delegate can choose how they wish to proceed.
The Ethical AI Workshop
This is why I have teamed up with Ninian MacGregor of P2P AI Consultancy. Together, we have created a workshop called Ethical AI, designed to help businesses understand the correct, ethical and most effective way of approaching and instructing AI.
The workshop also demonstrates practical applications where AI can be highly effective and genuinely beneficial when used with the right approach and safeguards.
The Business Case for Ethical AI
AI can make a significant and profitable difference to almost any business. Used wisely, it can transform key processes by making them faster, clearer and more efficient.
Businesses that embrace Ethical AI will have a considerable advantage over those that choose not to take the same path. Those that fail to use AI wisely and ethically may find others taking the market lead.
Conclusion
In summary, AI should not be dismissed simply because it can be misused. When it is approached with ethical safeguards and practical business aims, it can become a powerful tool for improving performance and supporting better decision-making.
That is the purpose of Salient’s Ethical AI work: to help businesses understand the technology, use it responsibly and gain advantage without losing sight of quality, integrity or human judgement.
